Leader length question. NEW
by: Ron W

My leader on the floating line was approx 12 ft and I was not using an indicator. I would guess that my chironomid was not getting deep enough on the floating line. when I caught the small fish on the sinking line with the chironomid I probably started at about 30 ft deep but got the strike part way up the retrieve.

How long was your leader? NEW
by: Anonymous

It's too bad that you were not able to hit some fish on your dry line. Can I ask how long your leader was and whether you were using a strike indicator?

At this time of the year when fish are moving around the bottom, I may suggest that you try a bloodworm. The fish are actually probing and plucking them from the marl. Although I prefer a long leader on my dry line (20'+), a deep sinking line dragging the bottom can be just as effective.

Good luck next time out.
