Walloper Lake June 26

Today I had the good fortune to have the day off while my wife went to work. That left me at home with 3 kids. What to do? What to do? I know! " Hey kids, do you want to go fishing today?" The response was 3 votes to none...we were going fishing.
With something on the slate for the day, it was easy to get the kids dressed and fed. First stop was Surplus Herby's to get the kids a new bobber each. With bobbers in hand, we jumped into the truck and made tracks for Walloper Lake.
We got to the lake around 11:00, joining the clean-up crew as the only people there. As I set up the spinning rods for the kids, they explored the new territory with great vigor. They found great pleasure and fascination in the only mud/spongy spot for miles around!
Forgoing the boat for the wonderful wharf, we set out for an afternoon of casting fun. The kids are 6, 6, and 3 so for the first few hours, I was casting three rods as fast as they could reel them in! Eventually the attention went form fishing to other neat things around them. There was new feathers, flowers and weeds to look at. This gave me a chance to get my own line wet. I got all of 3 casts in when the first kid came back to the water.
With more room on the dock, I took the risk of getting hooked and showed my eldest daughter how to cast on her own. After about 10 attempts, she was getting her line out about 20 feet or so. Not to shabby for her first time! Being able to cast on her own really got her excited about being on the water again. So much so that at the end of the day I had to almost drag her off the wharf! Not to be outdone, once one sister saw the other casting on her own, she had to get in on the act. I must say that I have 2 pretty good fishergirls in the making!
The day ended with both of my girls beaming with pride at being able to get their line out by themselves, while my son was content with the fact that his lure "swam" like a fish ( something that he told me to look at each time he reeled it in ). Fish were jumping all around us all day long, it would seem that we had zero luck in landing any fish, although I'm sure that I had some hits while I had my line in the water unattended. The kids were also able to round up flower bouquet for Mom when we got home. A perfect ending for a great afternoon getting out and about with the kids.
