Tulip Lake and Rose Lake

Roche Lake Area

Introduction and Access:
Tulip Lake and Rose Lake are located on the main gravel road leading into the heart of Roche Lake Provincial Park. Rose Lake is the first lake that you come to and even though it is right beside the road, access with a boat is nearly impossible. Tulip Lake has a drive through rustic camping / parking area and is easier to access with a small boat or belly boat.

You will get to these lakes with a 2 wheeled drive vehicle (car or truck) however the parking area at Tulip Lake can be quite wet and muddy most of the time and caution must be taken to avoid getting stuck.

Recommended Flies and Lines:

We recommend that you carry at least 2 lines. A floating line will provide all the action you want for most of the year, fishing both dry and wet flies. As both of these lakes are reasonably shallow, a slow sinking or sinking tip line will supplement your ability to get to the fish.

Flies - Freshwater shrimp, dragons and leeches are the main food source here as well as the chironimid and bloodworm. If you happen to be fishing in the fall, try a water boatman as this area has a prolific 'boatman hatch'.You can also spin cast or bait fish (see regulations first) these lakes.

Approximate Size and Elevation:
Tulip - 12haRose - 10ha or less. These lakes are just below Roche Lake and are at about 1130m or 3707ft.
Special Notes:
Both lakes contain rainbow trout and brook trout and are supplemented with aerators that enhance oxygen levels during the winter to prevent winterkill. We can say that we have not fished these lakes much at all however one can watch the fish moving around the lakes at any given time. Our guess is that there are some lunkers around that have a free reign as the pressure on these lakes is miniscule.
