Spring Thaw Late in Kamloops Area Lakes

Looking East over 6 Mile Lake

April 2, 2009

The forecast in Kamloops for the upcoming weekend is promising but this has been the coldest spring that I can remember for a long time. Cold enough that I haven't ventured out to Six Mile Lake or Morgan Lake to see how the ice is thawing.

I expect Morgan to thaw first, it did last year. I'm not sure that that is always the pattern as Morgan Lake was only opened for fishing in 2006.

Look for Jacko Lk to open up about a week after 6 Mile Lake. White Lake, near Shuswap Lake, should also be not far from opening.
