Free solunar tables for best fishing times. Know the fishing forecast before you leave your home, anywhere in the world.
I was introduced to John Alden Knights's "Moon Up~Moon Down way back in the 1980's, just after I moved moved to Kamloops. It was a great read and I was sure that I was on to something. So I purchased tables for the current year and decided to see if there was some credence to the suggest that the best fishing times could be forecast according to the relative positions of the moon and the sun during each day.
The results were remarkable. I matched my fishing results with the predicted times in Knight's forecast book and found them to be reasonably accurate at many of the local
Kamloops Area Lakes.
(Consulting the solunar tables helps you plan your time in a busy world. Who wants to waste valuable time as well as precious fuel fishing between the best fishing times?)
After a few years Alden Knight's book was not being published and other companies started publishing similar fishing forecast that differed substantially from the original forecasts done by Knight.
I found them to be inaccurate and generally a waste of time.
Recently, with the use of the trusty search engines, I found a solunar forecast site that seems to match the accuracy of the original forecaster, Richard Knight. It's called
SolunarForecast.com.
And it's Free!
It's relatively easy to use and I'm sure the paid version is much better. The free version comes with lots of information like:
Major and Minor Feed PeriodsBest fishing days - star system rating% of waxing or waning moonsun up & sun down... all coordinated with the longditude and latitude of your fishing location.
Kamloops Area Solunar Forecast
The free downloadable program uses Greenich Time (UK), and results must be converted to your specific time zone. The key is to figure out how much difference you are from the baseline time (North America ranges from -4hrs to -9 hrs difference from Greenich). The program uses Google Maps for locating your approximate longditude and latitude positioning and then calculates the best fishing times in your local time.
Key Point:
Once you are registered and signed in, you will have to need to know which page to use. On the tab bar across the top there should be one that says "WORLD". Use that to pinpoint your location on the map, Google will deliver the latitude and longditude and Solunar Forecast does the rest.
