A Dull Day at 6 Mile Lake
I thought that I might be the first up to the lake at around 7:30am but to my surprise there were already 3 boats on the water. The weather was overcast with a slight west breeze and a light chop on the water. When I got out onto the water and anchored not far from 2 of the boats, I asked if anything was happening yet and that answer was no.
One of the guys beside me got the first fish. I'm not sure what he was using but I thought I overheard hyalella shrimp. I had a greenish-holo chromie with a white bead head. Not long after that first fish, I was into my first one too and not long after, another. Both fish were chunky 13 inch-ers and I released both of them.
Everyone on the lake seemed to catch a couple fish. I moved down to the east end of the lake and didn't have any luck at all. When I came back to mid-lake, the 2 guys that I was anchored near before said that they had a nice little flurry of activity. After trolling around for awhile I got into one real nice fish on a light brown damsel but lost it after about 5 seconds. That was the last action I was to have on the lake this day.
I watched one of the guys land a nice 4 pounder just before I left.
As far as hatches go, there were some small chironomids coming off but for the most part, the there was little happening. Even the coots were quiet. I tried a variety of chironies, hyalella shrimp, damsels, leeches and boobies with the damsel and the chironie had the most action.
The water levels are dropping too. It appears that water was flowing out of the water control structure in the dam. I don't know if there was any water coming in.
