Six Mile Lake Apr 3 2010

by Mr BFSH
(Kamloops)

I started the Easter weekend with an afternoon at Six Mile Lake. I was going for dinner at our nephew's place in Tobiano so I thought that I might cast a line. When I arrived mid-afternoon, I wasn't too excited about going out. There was a stiff breeze blowing in from the SW and was churning up some good waves.

There were a quite a few fishermen around but not everyone was in the water. Some were fishing from shore and some were waiting for the wind to die down a bit. I got my stuff ready and put the boat in the water and left it fixed at shore because there was no way that I was going to get out with the wind blowing me back into the bullrushes.

With difficulty, I finally got on to the lake. I stuck mostly to the east half of the lake, a little trolling/drifting and I anchored to cast a few time too. There just wasn't anything happening. I didn't see anyone catching anything but I did hear that one guy anchored on the north side shoals had been into a few small ones.

By 5pm everyone else was off the lake and packing it in. I had found a calm spot on the south shore where I could anchor and cast. I should have taken the hint from the other guys... not much happening. At about 6:20pm I finally had my first bite, casting and retrieving a booby fly. It gave me a glimmer of hope but when nothing else happened in the next half hour I decided to go to dinner, a cold, wind-beaten man.

The water temperature was 43F... that's the same as it was 9 days earlier. That just goes to show how cool our days and nights have been. There were no noticeable hatches.
