Silent Lake Remains Silent - Sept 4, 2009

KJ found a lake on the government stocking site that was above Pritchard (north) and had been stocked for the previous 3 years. After reviewing the location of the lake on Google Earth, he invited me to come up with him and give it a try.
The lake is along Warren Road (Road 4100) and is just a button of a lake. I remember it years ago when I used to hunt deer in the area but it was inaccessible at that time. It appears that local logging efforts enabled a drive-able trail into the lake but let me tell you, the launch was tough. It would really suck if you were trying it with a belly boat as you would sink into mud up to your arse.
The lake looked to be about 4ha with very little shoal area. It reminded me of Madden Lake near Oliver. The bottom disappeared to about 40ft in no time. Looking into the water, I have never seen so many water boatman... little ones, but thousands of them.
There were also 2 loons on the lake that gave us some hope but as we drifted around we had but 3 small fish show up on the fish finder in 2 hours. No bites, no rises, even the loons weren't feeding. That was enough for us so we packed it in about 4:40pm and decided to slip over to Pemberton Lake near Hyas lake.
Pemberton Lake must be a reservoir for downstream irrigation because when we arrived, the water was so low that you couldn't possibly launch a boat of any kind. So much for our afternoon of fishing.
We headed down the hill and stopped at Pinantan Lake just to find the public accesses. We found 2 of the three. We also stopped at Pinantan Lake Resort and had a good chat with the lodge owner, Brad Watson.
Again, it was another poor day in early September while the weather is in transition from summer to fall. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing some frost and the gorgeous Indian summer that annually brings on a an onslaught of hatches and frenzies of feeding rainbow trout.
