Red Lake BC

Brook Trout Lake

red lake map "Red Lake" BC is a quality brook trout lake located approximately 50km NW of Kamloops BC, directly north of Kamloops Lake. The lake also holds some large rainbow trout that provide significant sport in the spring and the fall.

At an elevation of only 950m, this productive lake opens relatively early in the spring and stays open until mid November. It does tend to get a bit warm through the July and August and fishing falls off substantially.

Red is also a popular "ice fishing lake".

Access:

There are 2 basic routes into this popular lake. Both routes go through forest that is blessed with a lot of wildlife, mostly deer but you may also see moose, mountain sheep or black bear.

1) From Kamloops - drive through the North Shore and find your way to the Tranquille Valley / Red Lake Road. The road travels through some interesting country including some splendid views over the Tranquille River Valley. The road is narrow and winding so take caution while driving. Follow the road until you come to a 3 way intersection (Criss Creek /Red Lake/Tranquille Valley) and turn left on the Red Lake Road. The lake and access is a couple of kilometers. It's a rough access and can tend to get crowded.

2) From Tobiano / Savona - Follow the Trans-Canada Highway to the west end of Kamloops Lake, cross the bridge over the Thompson River and start climbing the hill. As you near the top of the first hill turn right on the Sabiston Lake Rd and follow the signs into Red Lake.
