Pinantan Lake - near Kamloops, BC
I thought that I would give Pinantan Lake a try so I wandered up there Sunday morning. Of course, the lake was calm when I arrived and blowing by the time I hit the water. The first thing that I noticed were the small minnows in the water around the boat launch.
I tried trolling/drifting/casting around the islands near Pinantan Lake Resort and hardly saw a fish on my fish finder. The shoals fall off to 30ft+ in no time. After an hour of no action, I headed to the other end of the lake where Paul Creek meanders in from Little Pinantan Lake. It was slow in that area too but about noon, the wind died and I started to see the odd rise. I was drifting when I hit my first fish. It was small and I ended up giving it the 20ft release. A few minutes later, as I was casting a holo-red booby, I hit and landed a small rainbow about 11".
I cruised around for a bit and started back toward the boat launch. There were a couple of tugs on the booby and I finally hit another small rainbow.
That's it. There was the odd rise and the occasional blip on my fish finder but nothing much was happening. I wasn't too excited about the lack of good shoals and certainly disappointed at the lack of fish. When I returned to the launch and was loading my gear, an older gentleman, who seemed to be visiting one of the homes on the road, approached me and asked about the fishing.
"Pretty Poor" was my response. I only got 2. He responded "there were 4 of us and we got nothing at all yesterday afternoon". I guess I was lucky.
There sure are some nice homes around the lake and they all have a great view. The "Princess" and I have some friends/acquaintances in the community and have talked about looking at real estate in the area. It's only 25km from Kamloops.
