Leighton Lake - Spotty Again

Leighton Lake - Hot and Smokey

Leighton Lake - Hot and Smokey

Leighton Lake - Aug 2

Some guys were catching them, some were not. I came to Leighton to scout it out for an out-of-town friend coming for a couple of days.

The water surface temperature was lurking around 72F, which is quite warm for trout. The air was hot and rather still but the smoke from regional forest fires was filling the air.

There were a few fish being caught on purple chironomids (go figure eh?)and brown with red rib & copper head.

I caught 3 small fish on a brown & red rib chironomid.

There were very few chironomids showing. Other than the north bay, there was a young father & son out off the big point (north shore- middle of the lake) catching lots of fish on a black with red rib chironomid under a strike indicator.

The summer resident fisherman, an retired gentleman named Larry was into fish and lost a real nice fish... maybe in the 5 lb range.

In the end, Leighton didn't impress me enough to take a guest there so I had to make a decision as to where to go the next couple of days.
