Morgan Lake 2007

Morgan Lake 2007

It's been unsettled weather here in the Kamloops Area Lakes as the ice has started coming off more lakes. The days have been windy and the nights have been cool to cold, slowing the process.

Jacko Lake is ice free and seeing lots of visitors. We managed to get out there on Wed Mar 31 but I think the bite had been and gone. I didn't get on the water until 4pm and most people were coming in. There were various degrees of success ranging from "nothing" to "quite a few, but mostly small".

There was word that one guy was doing well fishing from shore. I saw him walking back to his vehicle as I was headed out and he certainly had a handsome stringer of fish. Nice size too. Then I found out that he was using a bobber and worms set-up... heathen!!!

I got caught in an increasingly numbing wind and never got a bite all evening.

I have heard that 6 Mile is fishing ok, although the wind has played havoc there too.
The fish are still on green bloodworms and olive hyalella shrimp... some of the trollers were getting them on big black leeches in the deeper water. No news on Morgan Lake.

An older gentleman that I met at Jacko said that the ice was still not off Edith Lake, although the ice had receded to about 50' from shore... look for Edith Lake to be ice free sometime this weekend. The same guy said that he landed a 2.5lb kokanee at Monte Lake earlier in the week.

That should also mean that Red Lake won't be far behind. It is the same elevation as Edith.

White Lake was not doing much the last time I had heard... which was last week.

Kamloops Lake has been giving up some nice fish for those who can get access. I may have the chance to try it in a boat this weekend and hope to get back to you with some sort of success story.

Has anyone out there heard if the ice is off of Stump Lake?

Hopefully the weather starts to smarten up... I have a feeling that we are a week or so away from that.
