Idleback Lake - Just Idle

Long Weekend Campers at Idleback Lake
My friend Dave and his wife Jane from Kamloops (mr BFSH)came down for a couple of days and we were allowed to go fishing for a few hours to Idleback Lake.
It has been a while since either of us had fished the lake so we took the trek up from Penticton early Monday morning. On the way up there was evidence of a few off-road parties in various areas. We ended up putting out an open fire on a slash trail. It's amazing how society can make great strides in technology but socially take 2 steps backwards for every step forward. There seems to be a certain group of fun seekers out there that seem to think that spewing their trash all over the place, chewing up the environment with their noise machines and leaving unattended fires is ok. Well it's not. Unfortunately there is too much open area and not enough manpower to enforce the law.
We were surprised at the number of people at Idleback Lake... I would have to say that less than half of them were fishermen as we were only the 2nd boat on the lake. There were a few more by noon but the lake wasn't busy at all.
To start off with, we trolled our wet lines with a couple of different booby patterns. There were very few fish showing on the fish finder and we had no luck. I had one small hit and Dave had none. We then anchored at the west end of the lake and tried chironomids... the one other guy that was on the lake when we started (Russ), got one small fish in that same area. Later he moved to the another shoal and caught one other small fish while we were there.
For us, it was nada, nada, nada... We packed it in about 12:15 and headed back to Penticton. We planned a special trip to Batstone Lake (near Merritt) for some trophy fishing on Tuesday so we were just happy to get our casting arms warmed up.
