Hoslie Lake - Beautiful Blue-Green Water

Hoslie Lake - Beautiful Blue-Green Water

KJ and I decided to make the trek into Hosli Lake on Sunday afternoon. The morning was beautiful when we made the pact but as we left town around 1:30pm you could see a "weather front" moving in from the south. There was plenty of breeze in the valley but it seemed to subside once we got into the hills near in the Roche Lake area.

The road into Hosli Lake goes past Bleeker Lake... there was only one boat on the lake but about 5 belly boaters were fishing at the east end near the stream inlet.

As usual, the trail up to Hosli was bumpy but at least it was dry. There were a few boats on the water when we arrived and they were concentrating their efforts near the island. We talked to a guy on shore and he said that the fishing was pretty good earlier in the day but not much was happening in the afternoon... and as we were to find out, how true his words were.

We moved around to various parts of the lake, starting at the west end, then moving to the island and then down to the south end. All beautiful water but there wasn't much moving. Lots of chironomid casings on the water and a few live ones hatching. The best that we could do was 3 fish to the boat between the two of us... none over 12" in length.

The word was that chironomids were working in 25' to 30'.

On the way home I stopped to talk to a couple of belly boaters pulling out of Bleeker. They had the same story... good fishing in the morning (2-4lbs) and then real slow in the afternoon.

My theory was that the low pressure weather system that moved into the area early in the afternoon turned off the fishes appetites and drove them to deep water. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
