Best Fly Fishing Lakes in BC

Fishing Logan Lake is a deceiving proposition because of its close proximity to town and the highway. But don't be fooled.

The Town of Logan Lake is situated approximately 50km (30mi) south west of the city of Kamloops, BC.

Situated at the east entrance to the Town, Logan Lake has contained triploids for longer than most lakes. The amount of feed is incredible so the fish are well fed. They look like little footballs. When you visit the area we suggest going to the local fly shop in the mall (the smart fisherman would always visit the local shop for up-to-date reports and invaluable information). Take a look at the pictures they have there. It's impressive. If you can hook into one, it's likely to be a big one.

Although this lake is not considered your typical Kamloops area trophy lake, it makes the list because of the sheer size of the fish available. Fishing Logan lake can be difficult because of the amount of feed but when you do hook into one, it could be a real trophy (10 lbs+).

Large leeches seem to be the most consistent fly pattern when fishing Logan Lake. I haven't spent a lot of time on this lake but I have also had good success with a large muddler minnow around the aerator in the fall. My friend Steve has had success cruising the middle of the lake with a bloodworm, deep. This lake is great for fishing in a float tube or pontoon boat.

The lake has some restrictions. As of 2005 there is a single barbless hook, one fish daily quota and is 'electric motor only'. Ice fishing is available throughout the winter however caution is recommended when nearing the aerators as the ice can be very thin and dangerous.

Please consult the current BC Fishing Regulations before fishing any lake in BC.

The town of Logan Lake is in the heart of its own 'lake country'. Although considered a mining town with nearby Highland Valley Mine providing the bulk of the employment, Logan Lake is also emerging as a notable "retirement community" attracting seniors from all over BC with its rural flavour and recreational lifestyle it offers.

There are a number of ways to get to the fishing in Logan Lake.

1) You can access via the Coquihalla Hwy (hwy 5) at interchange 336 coming from south (Vancouver/Merritt/Okanagan)and from the north via Kamloops. Follow Meadow Creek Rd (paved) west from the turnoff.

2) Highway 97C is a scenic drive and leads to the Town from Merritt (south) or Ashcroft (north - Trans Canada Hwy).

3) The Tunkwa Lake Rd connects from the north through Savona (Kamloops Lake) on the Trans Canada Hwy.

4) From Kamloops you can also take the Lac le Jeune Rd.

Other nearby lakes: Tunkwa/Leighton, Face/Paska, Surrey/Sussex, Mamit, Lac le Jeune, Stake, Trojan Pond, Tupper, Gump, Walloper, Lodgepole, Bose, Island and Calling Lake.
