First off I gotta tell ya, my dad is 78 years old! He gave to me the love of not only fishing but a love and respect of the outdoors. We have been on hundreds of fishing trips and this is the story of just one of our trips.
Last summer we started out around lunchtime, my dad my nephew and I on a short afternoon fishing trip to Elbow Lake up by Mabel Lake. Having been up there earlier in the week I had a good idea which flies we were going to have the best luck on today and it happened to be a #8 olive damsel nymph. Boy was I ever on the money there!
During the 4 hours that we fished the three of us caught over 25 nice rainbows most in the 12-16 inch range, my nephew was beside himself as he had never had this kind of fishing. Needless to say my Dad, well, he had a lot of fun. We caught so many fish that we actually wore the colour off of 6 damsel nymphs!
When we were starting to work our way to the launch dad threw out one last cast. He sat for a couple minutes as I steered the boat around and BANG! Walter struck hard and started to jump! After a few spectacular leaps he sounded and just decided to stay down . My dad was hollering "look at him " and " I can't bring him in". Finally he got him in and it was the biggest of the day, not a huge fish by some standards but big enough for us.
Here is my YouTube video of my dad catching the fish.
