Dinosaur Lake...Peace region

by Dave Newton
(Kamloops BC)

Had been fishing for lake trout all day with no success. Decided to fish for rainbows with light tackle and caught a few small silver rockets.

Just before dinner decided to try again for small rainbows as they had been jumping more and more during the evening. Was trolling slowly using a #2 Panther Martin when my line began to sing.

As I shut down the trolling motor I was losing line as the trout swam away from me. Just as fast as it swam away it began to swim at the boat...reeling as fast as i could as I was using 6 pound test the fish turned and swam away from me again. After a few feet it turned once more and swam right to the boat. When it got close to me I saw her as she turned sideways... what a beauty.

My heart was racing as I deduced that the fish was a minimum weight of 3 times my line. After missing her with the first net attempt I turned her again and into the net she went.

When we got her back to shore I could not weigh her properly as my scale only went to 20 pounds. She ended up being 24 1/2 pounds. Was 36 inches long, 9 1/2 inches deep and 24 inches in girth.

What a fish!
