Campbell Lake Slows - Sept 1, 2009

It was the annual visit from the Murphy boys, Wayne from Penticton and Brian from Cornwall, BC. Last year we went to Community Lake and Roche Lake. This time they were here for one day only so we decided on Campbell Lake as it has been the best producer.
As summer is coming to an end, we are finally getting some rainfall but it has come with the turmoil of lightning and thunder... usually not good conditions for fishing. The night before there were particularly violent thunderstorms but the weather cleared for the morning. The water was still very warm, 70F, and the pond scum was dense. It was sunny when we arrived.
Brian jumped in with me and we headed for the north shore, the usual spots. Wayne followed and moved a little bit further down the lake. He was the first to get into fish but it took a while. I finally hit a couple of fish, not very big and the fish were far and few between.
The air was hot and close as the day wore into the afternoon. Smoke was filling the air from a forest fire about 20 km to the east. About 2pm the skies clouded over and our first thundershower moved through, cooling things off temporarily. An hour later it was hot and stuffy again, the fish were nibbling but not hard. Wayne was into a few more and I finally got another but poor Brian was biteless.
At around 5pm the big storm moved in. Thunder, lightning and wind. It was time to call it a day and as we started for shore it was apparent that the breeze was really going to challenge my electric motor, especially with 2 big guys in the boat. We did not make it to the launch (my battery ran out of juice) as we were blown ashore about 100m downwind from it. Brian and Wayne dragged the boat back to the launch (good guys eh)while I carried a bunch of other crap.
In the end, Wayne landed about 10 fish while I landed 5. Brian bit the green weenie. None of the fish exceeded 16 inches. It was nice to see these guys again and I would have liked to put up a picture of Brian and his fish (Wayne has already made the site a few times) but my rule is ... NO FISH, NO PICTURE. Hopefully we can get together one more time before he heads back to Ontario.
