Blue Lake Blues

It took three years for me and my pal LB to get back to Blue Lake and try to hook into those chrome missiles that taunted us back on '07 .... the anticipation of a great day was high. So on June 3 we made the trek and found one camper on site and another fellow unloading his boat, within minutes a boat laden ATV from Glimpse lake showed up too - wow, 5 great minds seeking fish fun. The camper suggested it had been slow ......
We hit the water and as Blue Lake is known to do, we drifted in the swirling wind pattern - amazing the frequency of the wind changes here - not unworkable though. I found a suitable place to drop anchor as did some others and the work began - and work, work, work it was, for nothing !! Super slow all over the lake. LB, without anchors on his pontoon boat, seemed to have some luck on some nymphs and leeches - but only as faint pulls not real takes of the fly. Nothing for me at all. Two other fellows showed up - one pontoon, one float tube.
Eventually a couple of fish were caught over the afternoon but nothing of any size and the I saw two the float tuber hook, both fought themselves off the hook, much to his chagrin. They looked like maybe 2 lb at most but according to him they were 3 to 4 lbs easy ............ that's fishing!
By the end of the day LB had 3 to his boat and I had a dismal 2 nibbles only. Pretty lake, but it may be a while before I fish it again. -KJ
