Amazing Day at Campbell Lake
Kamloops Area Lakes

The New Murphy's Law - Catch More Fish!!!

The New Murphy's Law - Catch More Fish!!!

Saturday, July 4th was a day to remember as my fishing buddy Dave and I got an early start to head out to a lake I had never fished before.

My friend Dave who lives in Kamloops and is the creator of this web site "bigfishsmallhook.com" promised me a day of great fishing at Campbell Lake. He did not disappoint. Dave had scoped out this lake in June and thought it would be pretty awesome for us to tackle.

It was a perfect day--a little breeze / sunny and lots of great shoals. I have to admit for years I was a "wet line-fly trolling" kind of guy but Dave persisted in teaching me the art of dry line fishing. Now I have to say I seem to enjoy dry-lining more than the other. In fact July 4th was my first day that I only used my dry line.

Anyway, the major solunar feed period (we always give this consideration) was at 9:55am so we got to the lake and out to Dave's favorite spot around 8:45am. Now Dave who is always the good host let me catch the first four fish. I was using my floating line with a strike indicator set at about 6ft. I had on a emerging caddis. The fish were quite active from 9:00 to 12:30--in fact between Dave & I we netted about 16-18 fish.

There didn't seem to be a lot of surface activity in the morning but as the afternoon went by there were more and more "feeder rises". In fact around 2:00pm for about two more hours there was a lot of activity and we caught another 14 to 16 fish.
Throughout the day we tried a number of different flies but the ones that worked for me the best always seemed to have a bit of blue/green tinsel on the "halfback".

Campbell Lake is a winner for me with its great shoals and lively fish.
Thanks again Dave for this awesome day.

Tight lines, Wayne Murphy / Penticton.
