Alleyne Lake - Merritt Area Lakes

May long weekend camping has been a tradition with our friends for as long as I can remember.
Over the years people have dropped off with various excuses/commitments. My wife and I love the outdoors and have continued to treat the first long weekend of the year as an opportunity to start the summer season in the wilderness. With a 6 and 4 year old, we have tamed our destinations, but any camping/fishing is good camping/fishing.
This year the Lake was Alleyne lake just up the road from Merritt.
It's kid friendly and has a few other lakes in the area to choose from if fishing is slow. We arrived on the Fri at noon with our trailer in tow. After the tour of available camps (very few) we settled into a spot close to the launch with a good view of the road where the kids would be riding their bikes.
Wind kept the four of us off the lake until 6:00 but we were ready when it calmed down. I fish out of a 8ft Zodiac, so needless to say it's tight with a family of four but even with a strong wind the boat feels stable and safe.
We tied a black micro leech on one rod and a olive pumpkin head on the other. With a rod in the holder and one tight in my wife's hand, we trolled along the first shoal. Being early May and the ice only melting a week or so earlier I knew the fish would be in shallow water.
First fish of the season was a 14 inch rainbow that would have been perfect for one of the kids to bring in "but"... the wife had the rod, so it went to her. Next one for the kids RIGHT??
45 minutes past before we got the next hook up, so to her defense, I guess her promise slipped her mind HA HA. Might have to leave mom at camp next time. Both kids would bring in multiple fish over the next 2 days and I even had to wake my four year old boy from a boat nap to help with a double header.( 16 in.- 13in.)
Great time once again on the May Long
